You come as an uninvited guest
any time of day or night
demanding our undivided attention
under any circumstance
you take over our body, our mind
depriving us of joy we might have
even when it all seems calm
with no ailment or hunger or grief in sight,
hordes of tormenting demons stand by
ready to unleash your next attack
and when it is our time to depart,
like a dark angel you appear, ushering the way
What is your purpose, your intent anyway?
Are you really our guide, our guard,
our prompter to self-control
warning us of hidden danger
lifting us out of fallacy or fall?
If these are some of your services,
what a heavy price to pay
in lives as short as ours
